Hal W. Smith Sr., 77, of Lincoln, formerly of Slater, died Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 28, at Abundant Life Christian Center in Lincoln. Rev. Herbert Robertson officiated. Pallbearers were Halen Smith, Britt Smith, Joshua Iglehart, Landon Collis, Wally George and Beno Messer. Burial with graveside services was held in Higginsville City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Abundant Life Christian Center Building Fund in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
Born July 2, 1927, in Cole Junction, he was the son of the late Jasper T. and Nellie Coots Smith. On Sept. 16, 1975, in Higginsville, he married Eleanor Kahler Iglehart, who survives of the home. He was a member of Abundant Life Christian Center in Lincoln and was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Higginsville. He served as chief of police for the city of Slater for 21 years and retired after 14 years at the Higginsville Habilitation Center. He had lived in Lincoln since 1989, moving from Higginsville.
Additional survivors include three sons, Hal W. Smith Jr. of Slater, Denny Iglehart of Ankeny, Iowa, and Richard Iglehart of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Linda Ann Hager of Independence and Anna Maria Smith of San Diego, Calif.; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Rocky Smith; one daughter, Nancy Gail Smith; four brothers and three sisters.
