Rev. Eugene Kruse, 72, of Gilliam, died Saturday, March 12, 2005, at his home.

Cremation. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Saline City. Rev. Mark Hass will officiate. Memorials are suggested to the family's choice in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall.

Born July 25, 1932, in Washington County, Texas, he was the son of the late Edwin A. Kruse and Viola Krueger Kruse. On Aug. 17, 1958, in Denver, Colo., he married Audrey Ann Johnson, who preceded him in death Nov. 26, 1990. He was a 1950 graduate of Brenham High School in Brenham, Texas, and attended Blinn Junior College and Texas Lutheran College in Seguin, Texas, graduating in 1956 with a bachelor of arts degree. He was a 1971 graduate of Concordia Seminary in Springfield, Ill., and was ordained into ministry at Grace Lutheran Church in Brenham in June 1971. He was a Lutheran minister for over 25 years, serving locally at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sweet Springs from 1976 to 1988. He had lived in Gilliam since September 2000, moving from Genoa, Colo., and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Saline City.

Survivors include three daughters, Beth Borgman and husband Randy of rural Slater, Kathy Sylvester and husband Bill of Elizabeth, Colo., and Margie Sager and husband Bill of Greeley, Colo.; two sons, Mark Kruse and wife Cathy of Jefferson City and John Kruse and wife Tara of Independence; one sister, Janelle Platt of Dickinson, Texas; nine grandchildren, Heather Hoffman and husband Justin of Albuquerque, N.M., Mary Borgman, Amanda Borgman and Andrea Borgman, all of rural Slater, Jesse Kruse of Elizabeth, Colo., Audrey Kruse and Anna Kruse, both of Jefferson City, and Miranda Kruse and Skylar Kruse of Independence; one great-granddaughter, Rebecca Hoffman; one niece, Nancy Platt of Houston, Texas; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Jeremy Rea Borgman; and one nephew, Curtis Wayne Platt.
