John P. "Big John" Rafferty, 65, of Marshall, died Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2005, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall. Rev. Steve Soto will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials are suggested to Midway Baptist Church.
Born Sept. 29, 1939, in Kansas City, he was the son of the late James Joseph Rafferty and Kathryn Ann Short Rafferty. On June 24, 1963, he married Hazel Poole, who survives of the home. He had lived in Marshall most of his life and was a retired maintenance worker. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1964.
Additional survivors include two sons, John Randall Rafferty of Marshall and Ricky Dewayne Rafferty of Hughesville; one brother, William Joseph "Bill" Rafferty of Marshall; two sisters, Martha Agnes Ballenger of Mt. Leonard and Alice Marie Heitman of Kansas City; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald P. Rafferty and James T. Rafferty.
