William H. Haynes, 90, of Slater, formerly of Gilliam, died Sunday, March 6, 2005, at Big Bend Retreat in Slater.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, at First Baptist Church in Slater. Rev. Robert Sisney and Rev. Chris Weber will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Burial will be in Gilliam Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Missouri Baptist Children's Home or the Alzheimer's Association.
Born Nov. 2, 1914, in Saline County, he was the son of the late William A. and Alice Overcash Haynes. On Oct. 6, 1934, in Marshall, he married Hallie Corean Johnson, who survives of the home. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Slater. He worked at the Slater Mill then as a plant man at Gilliam Rock Quarry for 30 years until his retirement.
Additional survivors include two sons, Vernon Haynes of Slater and Billy Ray Haynes of Gilliam; two daughters, Doris Yager of Gilliam and Connie Humphrey of Grand Junction, Colo.; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters, four brothers and one grandson.
