Virgil L. Palmer, 81, of Malta Bend, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, at the University Hospital and Clinics in Columbia.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Burial with graveside military rites will be in Malta Bend Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Malta Bend Cemetery or American Diabetes Association.
Born Aug. 20, 1923, in Henry County, he was the son of the late Emuel L. Palmer and Lucy Jane Riley Palmer. On June 25, 1948, he married Fern Bird, who preceded him in death Oct. 24, 2001. He had lived in Malta Bend most of his life and was retired from MFA Seed Division. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of Malta Bend American Legion Post 558.
Survivors include one daughter, Wanda Fern Taylor of Malta Bend; one sister, Virginia Wright of rural Marshall; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Rush; and three brothers, Harold Palmer, Ralph Palmer and Wilbur Palmer.
