Stella P. Piper, 80, of Slater, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at Mar-Saline Manor in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slater. Rev. Michael Penn will officiate. Organist Bethany Weiker will perform "Peace Prayer of St. Francis," "Ave Maria," "Amazing Grace" and "Largo." Pallbearers will be Grant Piper, Scott Bockstetter, Cody Hedrick, Ethan Williams, Tom Simonin and David Mullins. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at the church. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials are suggested to the church in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
Born June 12, 1924, in Marshall, she was the daughter of the late Oxford A. and Elizabeth Brown Scharnhorst. On July 21, 1961, in Pittsfield, Ill., she married Paul Piper, who preceded her in death March 1, 1978. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slater. She was a 1942 graduate of Marshall High School. She worked for 10 years at International She Company, 13 years at Montgomery Ward and as a teller at the State Bank of Slater for 22 years before her retirement.
Survivors include five stepdaughters and one stepson; two brothers, Earnest Scharnhorst of St. Joseph and Earl Scharnhorst of Kansas City; four sisters, Dorothy Williams, Betty Deibel and Rose Alleen Mullins, all of Marshall, and Marie Sprinkle of Kansas City; and several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters in infancy and one stepson.
