Norene Pollock, 98, of Lexington, Ill., formerly of Slater, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at Bromenn Regional Medical Center in Normal, Ill.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, in Slater City Cemetery. Rev. Joe Barone will officiate. Pallbearers will be Gerald Kitchen, Ron McCoy, Jim Edward and Jason Weiker. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Memorials are suggested to Slater Christian Church or Chapter HQ of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.
Born Oct. 16, 1906, in Centralia, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert R. and Nellie Wigham Winn. On July 11, 1948, in Slater, she married Robert Pollock, who preceded her in death Sept. 2, 1972. She was a member of Slater Christian Church and the Chapter HP of the P.E.O. Sisterhood in Bloomington, Ill. She was also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, Daughters of the American Confederacy and the Slater Travel Club. She was a graduate of Central Methodist College in Fayette and received her master's degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She taught high school home economics in Slater, Glasgow, St. Louis and Norfolk, Wis., and retired from the Madison, Neb. school system, where she also served as high school principal. She moved to Bloomington from Slater in 1990, and later to Lexington, Ill.
Survivors include one niece, Beverly LaDuke and husband Ed of Fort Meyers, Fla.; one great-niece, Cynthia Pauley and husband Scott of Rochester, Minn.; one great-nephew, Gary LaDuke and wife Jody of Novato, Calif.; and five great-great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Lucille Head.
