Beulah Ellen Swopes Plummer, 93, of Sweet Springs, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at Fair View Nursing Home in Sedalia.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Sweet Springs. Rev. Charles Ahlemann will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Sweet Springs. Memorials are suggested to the charity of donor's choice.
Born Nov. 17, 1911, in Hickory County, she was the daughter of the late Lou Ezra Swopes and Arrena Iiams Swopes. On Dec. 26, 1929, she married Leslie Arnold Plummer, who preceded her in death. She had lived in the Sweet Springs area since moving with her family by covered wagon in 1921. She was a union secretary for International Shoe Company for many years. She worked for Rival Manufacturing after the shoe factory closed.
Survivors include one daughter, Marlene Scott of Blue Springs; two sons, Gene Plummer of Cole Camp and Richard A. Plummer of Crestview, Fla.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Bernice Noel, Pearl Berryman, Lena Samson and Kathleen Swopes; three brothers, Zeb Swopes, Earl Swopes and Hiawatha Waldo Swopes; one grandson, one great-great-grandson.
