Esther Schmidt Sontag, 89, of St. Louis, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at Green Park Nursing Home in St. Louis.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at Salem Lutheran Church in Afton. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at John L. Ziegenhein & Sons Funeral Home in St. Louis. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials are suggested to Salem Lutheran Church, 8343 Gravois, Afton, MO, or the church of the donor's choice.
Born May 14, 1915, near Hardeman, she was the daughter of the late Edward Schmidt and Anna Peuster Schmidt. She married Earl Mayberry, who preceded her in death in 1961. She later married Robert Sontag, who preceded her in death in 1994. She attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church near Saline City as a young woman. She moved to St. Louis early in life and attended Salem Lutheran Church in Afton, where she was involved the women's group. She was a member of the Kitten's Club. She was retired from Monsanto in St. Louis.
Survivors include four grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, one niece and one nephew.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Stevenson; one sister, Erma Ludwig; and one infant brother, Raymond Schmidt.
