Sylvia M. Briggs Hayes, 81, of Sedalia, formerly of Saline County, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, at Bothwell Regional Hospital in Sedalia.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall. Rev. Rodney Brown will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Burial will be in Salt Springs Cemetery in Saline County. Memorials are suggested to Parkview Christian Church in Sedalia or Mt. Leonard Baptist Church.
Born March 3, 1923, in Corder, she was the daughter of the late Frank S. Black and Edna G. Buchanan Black. She had lived in Saline County most of her life and moved to Sedalia in 1993. She was a homemaker and also ran a general store and luncheonette in Mt. Leonard for many years. She was a member of Parkview Christian Church in Sedalia.
Survivors include one son, James W. Briggs of Sedalia; one brother, Everette L. Black of Marshall; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Anita F. Briggs; two brothers, Frank W. Black and Charles "Jay" Black.
