Delano R. "Doc" Simmons, 71, of Marshall, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at Sweeney-Reser-Wills Funeral Home in Marshall. William Harlow will officiate. Pallbearers will be Gary Harlow, Cody Rhodelander, Terry Rhodelander, Harold Simmons, Robbie Simmons and Robert Simmons. Organist Ramona Bullington will play "Beyond the Sunset" and "Won't Have to Cross Jordan Alone." Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Marshall.
Born June 11, 1933, in Hickory County, he was the son of the late George D. Simmons Sr. and Sylvia Pummill Simmons. He had worked in the states of Illinois and Arizona before returning to Marshall in 1962. He had been employed by International Shoe and Quinn Concrete.
Survivors include two sons, Billy Joe Simmons and Eddie Dean Simmons, both of Marshall; two brothers, George D. Simmons Jr. and Carl D. Simmons, both of Marshall; three sisters, Nancy Simmons Miller of Gilliam, Vera L. Huesgen of Fulton, and Carol I. Johns of St. James; several grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
