Ray H. Elwell, 94, of Sedalia, formerly of Sweet Springs, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004, at the home of his daughter in Sedalia.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Sweet Springs. Pallbearers will be Donnie Elwell, Matt Elwell, Greg Elwell, John Hemme, Brian Elwell and Joe Wilson. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Sweet Springs. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Sweet Springs. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
Born Dec. 9, 1910, in Post Oak, he was the son of the late Otis E. Elwell and Susie J. Burk Elwell. On May 19, 1934, he married Elsie Rae King, who preceded him in death Feb. 10, 1979. In May 1980, he married Dora Gordon Highbarger, who preceded him in death Oct. 19, 1990. He had lived in Sedalia the last two and a half years, moving from Sweet Springs where he had lived since 1980. He had also lived in Warsaw and Raytown. He was a retired head custodian at Raytown Junior High School.
Survivors include one daughter, Wilma J. Knight of Sedalia; one son, Terry Elwell of Independence; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by one son, Russell Elwell; one grandson; three brothers and three sisters.
