Georgia Deer Kateman, 64, of rural Blackwater, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, at First Baptist Church in Marshall. Rev. Tom Anderson will officiate. Pallbearers will be Doug Boland, Glen Kruger, Troy Kateman, Jay Rodieck, Paul Ryan, Kent Mace, Tim Lemmon, Stacey Wade, Zach Lemmon, Seth Michaelis and Eddie Anderson. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, at the church. Burial will be in Arrow Rock Cemetery in Arrow Rock. Memorials are suggested to Multiple Sclerosis Society or Fitzgibbon-Mary Montgomery Hospice in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall.

Born Dec. 14, 1939, in Napton, she was the daughter of the late George Huston Deer and Elizabeth Tichenor Deer, who survives of Marshall. On Sept. 18, 1960, she married Donald Kateman, who survives of the home. She had lived in Saline and Cooper counties her entire life and was a graduate of Slater High School. She was a graduate of St. Luke's School of Nursing in Kansas City, and was a retired registered nurse from the Marshall Habilitation Center. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Arrow Rock, where she served as secretary of the church board. She had served on the Blackwater School Board and had been a 4-H leader. She was a member of Stitch-By-Stitch Quilter's Guild, Missouri State Quilter's Guild and attended Jo's Little Women quilter's class in Higginsville. She volunteered at Midway Heights Elementary School and was the 2004 Columbia Public School Volunteer of the Year. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed helping others.

Additional survivors include one son, Michael Kateman and wife Pamela of Rocheport; one daughter, Beth Blumhorst and husband Chris of rural Blackwater; three sisters, Mary Mace of Lee's Summit, Betty Lemmon of Miami and Katie Anderson of Pineville; two grandchildren, Chad and Brady Kateman; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father, she was preceded by one brother in infancy.
