Charles D. "Charlie" Odell, 68, of Mechanicsburg, Pa., died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at his home.
Cremation. A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at Otterbein United Methodist Church in Carlisle, Pa. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at family's convenience. Myers Funeral Home in Mechanicsburg is assisting with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Charles Odell Library Fund at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 647 Forge Road, Carlisle, PA, 17013, or to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, 98 South Enola Drive, Enola, PA, 17025.
Born Jan. 15, 1936, in Marshall, he was the son of the late Frank M. and Alberta Nell Stillwell Odell. He was married for 45 years to Judith "Judy" Ragland Odell, who survives of the home. He graduated from Central Missouri University with a degree in political science. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War, after which he worked for a short period of time for Lambirth Plumbing in Sedalia before taking the Civil Service Test and accepting a position in the United States government as a civilian in 1965. With this position, he moved to East Moline, Ill., where he lived until 1973. He and his family spent three years living in Zweibrucken, Germany, before being transferred to the New Cumberland Army Depot and moving to Mechanicsburg, Pa., in 1976. There he retired as director for Europe and Africa of the United States Army Security Assistance Command at the Cumberland Army Depot in 1993.
Additional survivors include one son, Stuart Odell of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; one daughter, Brenda Odell Schoffstall of Mechanicburg; and two grandchildren.
