Ruth Ilene Martz, 81, of Marshall, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at The Living Center in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Chapel in Marshall. Rev. David Goode will officiate. Burial will be in Grand Pass Community Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Memorials are suggested to the Saline County Career Center's LPN program.
Born July 4, 1923, in Horton, Kan., she was the daughter of the late Elva Leranzo Goens and Eva Massengale Goens. On Aug. 30, 1940, she married Samuel Wilford Martz Jr., who preceded her in death May 12, 1988. She had lived in Saline County since 1945. During World War II, she worked at North American Aviation as a riveter and then worked at Banquet Foods in Marshall, retiring in 1980 after 23 years of service. She was a member of Mt. Leonard Baptist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary in Blackburn.
Survivors include four sons, Dennis Martz of North Aurora, Ill., Dale Martz of Sedalia, Ronald Martz of Melbourne, Fla., and Charles Martz of Lowell, Ark.; three daughters, Judith Deckard of Dennison, Texas, Lucinda Bradley of Pittsburg, and Susan Davis of Shackelford; one brother, Dale Goens of Cedar Crest, N.M.; two sisters, Betty Cogdell of Lexington, Tenn., and Norma Goens; 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren and one brother.
