Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, at Visitation Catholic Church, 5141 Main St., Kansas City, Mo. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, at the church, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Born May 28, 1930, in Pilot Grove, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Christine Schuster Wittman. He was married to Olga E. Wittman, who survives of the home. He graduated from the Mercy Academy High School in Marshall and received bachelor of journalism and bachelor of arts in history degrees from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1957. He worked in advertising and marketing for several area advertising agencies, and retired in 1992 from the Old American Insurance Co. He was a member of Visitation Catholic Church, a volunteer for the American Heart Association and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Additional survivors include three daughters, Karen Wittman of Chicago, Ill., Jennifer Wittman of Chicago, and Michelle Murphey and husband Daniel of Pasadena, Calif.; six sisters, Marguerite Kouba of Houston, Texas, Bernice Crain of Prairie Village, Kan., Marie Barr of Marshall, Helen Kent of Independence, Catherine Berberet of Long Beach, Calif., and Ruth Weislocher of Marshall; one brother, William Wittman of Jefferson City; one grandson, Joshua Robert Murphy; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
