'Man of La Mancha' comes to MVC stage
Imprisoned by the Spanish Inquisition, playwright Miguel de Cervantes must convince his fellow prisoners not to steal or destroy his possessions. To do so, he tells the story of Don Quixote, the "man of La Mancha."
The Missouri Valley College Department of Dance, Music and Theatre will present Dale Wasserman's musical, "Man of La Mancha," Wednesday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Eckilson-Mabee Theatre.
Based on Cervante's classic story, the musical follows the adventures of idealist Don Quixote and his faithful manservant Sancho. Leading the production in these roles are Michael Amoroso and Sean Riley. Amoroso is a veteran of numerous MVC productions including "Pippin," "The Rainmaker" and "Kiss Me Kate." He has also been seen on the Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre's stage in "Guys and Dolls" and "Chicago." Riley appeared last semester's MVC production of "Blood Brothers" and this year's Lyceum productions of "Pippin" and "Big River."
Other student-actors appearing in the production are Michael Bentele, Emilee Murphee, Ashley McKay, Brandon Tatum, Travis Cox, Josh Haggard, Marylynn Gwatiringa, Genie Banner, Chris Regan, Katie Zufall and Austin Scherck. Alisha Gresham is the production's stage manager.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for students. The MVC box office is open from 3 to 5 p.m. and reservations can also be made via telephone by calling (660) 831-4208.
