MHS frosh gridders now 4-0

The current group of Marshall freshmen seem intent on one-upping its predecessors on the gridiron.

A year ago, the Owls' frosh -- several of whose members are now varsity starters -- posted a 6-0-1 record. The current gang is now 4-0, having beaten Columbia-West Junior High (24-6) -- the opponent which forced the tie a year ago -- Boonville (37-16), Smith-Cotton (38-14) and Jefferson JH of Columbia.

Tuesday's 32-14 victory over the Cyclones displayed Marshall's potent rushing attack. The game's opening drive consumed seven minutes, ending with Cody Dusenberry's 10-yard run.

The Owls scored twice in the third period. Anthony Thompson had a 30-yard run on a sweep and Dusenberry got in again from 10 yards out. Thompson showed his speed with an 80-yard dash for a TD during the final frame.

Marshall converted all four two-point conversion tries -- Josh Glassmaker passing twice to Michael Holley, throwing to Andrew Bridges and running one in.

There are a robust 35 players on the freshman roster. The Owls have three games remaining, including a home tilt Tuesday against Oak Grove.
