Be a rebel -- read a banned book

Wednesday, September 22, 2004
A quote to ponder

"Freedom of the press is not just important to democracy, it is democracy."

-- Walter Cronkite

A note from the director

Banned Books Week starts on Saturday, Sept. 25. The theme this year is "Elect to Read a Banned Book: Ban No More in 2004." There will be a display in the library for patrons to learn more about banned books. We will also have "I read banned books" available for patrons.

The winners of our library card sign-up drawing are Elizabeth Fizer and Chris Davis. Each of them won an Applebee's gift certificate. During the first two weeks of September, 76 non-residents and 52 residents got new cards. Welcome new patrons!

Just a reminder about our new Story Times: be sure to catch Jan tomorrow (3:15 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23) for the third and fourth grade Story Time! And bring those babies into Wee Ones, a laptime for babies from birth to 18 months on Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m.

Travel with Lewis and Clark

The next program in a series of programs featuring the travels and times of Lewis and Clark's Corps of Discovery will continue at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, in the meeting room at the library. The series is moderated by Jean Gaddy Wilson, assisted by Marvin Wilhite.
