Bethany Noel Choate

With the weather fully cooperating, Saturday was a good day to be on the water at Indian Foothills Park. Starting the day at 10 a.m., local children, including 6-year-old Bethany Noel Choate (above), got the opportunity to catch a few fish during an event sponsored by the park.

Helping to make the event a success were volunteers Kyle Gibbs, representing the Marshall Optimist Club and Cathy Cook, a member of the Marshall Park Board. Bob Sinclair of B&J Auto Credit donated 12 youth fishing poles and the Missouri Department of Conservation stocked the pond with 200 hybrid sunfish.

At 11 p.m. Butterfield Youth Services staged its annual duck race at the Marshall Aquatic Center (right). Jim Roberts, of Marshall, was the big winner with his speedy duck claiming the first prize cruise to Mexico. The duck of Ron Duvall, of Marshall, took second, garnering him a DVD player/stereo combo. Linda Bayher of Kansas City and Elizabeth Breaz-eall of Ozark took third and fourth, winning a DVD player and quilt, respectively.
