George W. Douglas, 88, of Olathe, Kan., formerly of Slater, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at Royal Terrace Care Center in Olathe.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13, at Slater United Methodist Church. Jerry Geisert will officiate. Burial will be in the Slater City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 until 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Memorials are suggestd to the church in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
Born Dec. 16, 1915, in Slater, he was the son of the late George W. and Lena Lawson Douglas. On Aug. 27, 1938, in Kansas City, he married Catherine L. Greene, who preceeded him in death Dec. 29, 1992. He was a member of the Slater United Methodist Church and its Methodist men's organization. He was a lifelong truck driver and livestock hauler and dealer. He co-owned Blakemore and Douglas Trucking in Slater and retired from IPLA Trucking. He moved to Lee's Summit in December 2002, and later to Olathe.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Douglas of Overland Park, Kan., and Joe Douglas of Lansing, Kan.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one son, David W. Douglas; and three sisters.
