J.C. Butner, 85, of Slater, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at Slater United Methodist Church. Rev. Jerry Geisert will officiate. Visitation will be from 7 until 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Burial with military honors will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery in Slater. Memorials are suggested to the church.
Born Nov. 26, 1918, in Slater, he was the son of the late John and Sarah Verlie Harris Butner. On June 8, 1946, in Marshall, he married Ida Belle Smith, who survives of the home. He was a member of the Abbotts Chapel United Methodist Church in Slater. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post No. 178 in Slater. He was a retired mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers.
Additional survivors include three sons, Charles Butner of Kansas City, Jay Butner of Kansas City, and Ces Butner of Oakland, Calif.; eight daughters, Loretta Jones, Jamesetta Butner, Nina Butner, and Rowena Butner, all of Kansas City, Veda Butner of Cedar Knolls, N.J., Jolitta Butner of Rialto, Calif., Daniella Dwyer of Levittown, N.Y., and Bonita Butner of Lubbock, Texas; one brother, Erby Butner of Kansas City; three sisters, Erma Logan, Marjorie Givhan and Christine Hardison, all of Kansas City; and eight grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Keith Butner; one brother, John L. Butner; and one granddaughter.
