George H. Thomas, 92, of Marshall, died Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall. Pallbearers will be Eric Kirchhoff, Jeff Kirchhoff, Philip Jones, Jim Folk, Jeremy Kirchhoff and Caleb Kirchhoff. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Burial with graveside military rites will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
Born March 12, 1912, in Marshall, he was the son of the late George W. Thomas and Emma Evans Thomas. On Sept. 15, 1940, in Marshall, he married Helen M. Folk, who preceded him in death Jan. 16, 2002. He had lived in Marshall most of his life and worked at Shyrack-Wright for 46 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was church outreach director, training union director, Sunday school superintendent and teacher, deacon and chairman of deacons. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and before entering the Army, he was a member of the Missouri State Guard. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 191 and was a member of I.O.O.F.
Survivors include one daughter, Janice Lorene Baker of Holts Summit and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Kay Thomas; three brothers, Burl Thomas, Lon Thomas and Harley Thomas; five sisters, Lila Lindsey, Pansy Howard, Anna Mae Phillips, Margaret Thomas and Dorothy Brooks.
