HIGGINSVILLE -- The Santa Fe volleyball team got its season off to a shay start Thursday with a 25-14, 26-24 non-conference loss at Higginsville.

The Lady Chiefs were plagued by the loss of sophomore Ashton Smith with a sprained ankle in the first game and fell behind the Lady Huskers (2-0) 9-0 in the second set before rallying to tie the contest at 9-0 before eventually succumbing.

Sophomore Holly Schmidt had six kills and six digs and sophomore Michelle Aversman and junior Haylie Loges made seven saves each for Santa Fe (0-1), which begins I-70 Conference play Tuesday at defending champion Crest Ridge.
