H.W. "Bill" Gilliam, 62, of Richmond, died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at Shirkey Leisure Acres in Richmond.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Marshall. Rev. Dallas Bundy will officiate. Gary Mosby will play "Amazing Grace" on the bagpipes. Pallbearers will be Jim Devasher, Elvin Enyeart, Michael Gilliam, Lemley Morgan, Greg Shrout and James Stout. Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Sweeny-Reser-Wills Funeral Home in Marshall.
Born July 25, 1942, in Marshall, he was the son of the late John A. Gilliam Sr. and Harrietta V. Fall Gilliam, who survives of Richmond. On Sept. 8, 1977, he married Carol J. Roots. He moved to Simi Valley, California, in 1977, where he worked as an insurance company executive until an automobile accident disabled him at age 47. He then moved back to his family in Missouri. He was a lifelong Christian. His hobbies included engraving, motorcycles and fast cars, and he had a great sense of humor.
Additional survivors include one son, Daniel W. Gilliam of Independence; one daughter, Kathy J. Shrout and husband Greg of Pella, Iowa; one brother, John A. Gilliam Jr. and wife Willa of Rayville; and two granddaughters, Elizabeth Shrout and Erica Shrout both of Pella, Iowa.
