John A. Scheef Jr., 83, of Marshall, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at his home.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at Sweeney Reser Wills Funeral Home in Marshall. Rev. Douglas A. Dubisar will officiate. Organist Ramona Bullington will play "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Pallbearers will be Brian Scheef, Justin Scheef, Mike Scheef, Dwayne Smith, Dwight Smith and Gaylon Smith. Honorary pallbearer will be Nicole Salek. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Fitzgibbon Mary Montgomery Hospice.
Born Jan. 16, 1921, in Walnut, Iowa, he was the son of the late John A. Scheef Sr. and Hulda Lebeck Scheef. On Jan. 1, 1944, in Atlantic, Iowa, he married Arlene M. Anderson, who preceded him in death Sept. 21, 1997. He had been employed with the Rural Electric Association in Iowa and Missouri. He and his wife moved to Marshall in 1961. He worked for the Marshall Municipal Utilities Water Department until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald E. Scheef of Columbus Junction, Iowa, and Allen L. Scheef of Montesano, Wash.; one daughter, Marcia A. Smith of Nixa; two sisters, Merna Wiley of Adel, Iowa, and Mildred Glenn of Walnut, Iowa; eight grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Gilbert Scheef.
