Phone tip leads police to fugitive

Thursday, August 12, 2004

An anonymous tip led authorities to a fugitive who had failed to show up to begin serving a prison sentence.

Angela Marie Thorp, 32, pleaded guilty Monday to class C felony domestic assault in the second degree and was sentenced to three years in the Department of Corrections. She was to have reported Wednesday to begin serving the term. When Thorp failed to appear, a warrant for her arrest was issued.

Saline County Sheriff Wally George said the phone tip came in around 4 a.m. Thursday, alerting police that Thorp was at a house at 466 W. Morgan in Marshall and planning to run.

Assisted by Marshall police, sheriff's deputies responded to the address only to discover it didn't exist. A quick call to one of Thorp's relatives revealed she was actually a few houses down the street from the officers' location.

Thorp was arrested and taken to the Saline County Criminal Justice Center without further incident.
