Dallas Eugene Hitt, 94, of Joplin, died Sunday, July 11, 2004, in Joplin.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, at Englewood Cemetery in Clinton. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church in Kirksville. Arrangements are under the direction of Consalus-Bradley Funeral Home in Clinton.
Born Feb. 25, 1910, in Howard County, he was the son of the late John and Mary Winn Hitt. On July 28, 1934, in Clinton, he married Dorothy C. Holcomb, who survives. He was a 1928 Moberly High School graduate and worked for Missouri Power and Light in Moberly and Clinton before transferring to Brookfield, where he served as district auditor. He filled that same position in Kirksville starting in 1942. He retired from MPL in 1975 after a career of 48 years. He was a former member of the Brookfield Lions Club, a 57-year member of the Kirksville Kiwanis Club, a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge 105, a former member of the American Heart Association, a longtime Boy Scout leader, the last surviving member of the building committee of First United Methodist Church in Kirksville and a former member of the Kirksville Country Club.
Additional survivors include one son, Jerry E. Hitt of Marshall; one daughter, Nancy Hitt Rankin of Joplin; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
