James Edward "Jim" Downs, 68, of Ellisville, formerly of Marshall, died Saturday, June 26, 2004, at St. John's Hospital in St. Louis.
Cremation. Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, at Bethel United Methodist Church in Wildwood. Music will be provided by Herb Eberle. Interment will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, in Bella Vista Memorial Cemetery in Bella Vista, Ark. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Bethel United Methodist Church. Schrader Funeral Home in Ballwin is in charge of arrangements.
Born Dec. 21, 1935, in Saline County, he was the son of the late Charles F. Downs and Adele Dehn Downs. On April 26, 1958, in Marshall, he married Lenora Helen Brown. On July 11, 1997, he married Gail Elliott. He attended Marshall High School, graduating in 1954, and attended Ranken Technical School in St. Louis for two years. He was employed by McDonnell Douglas (Boeing) in St. Louis for 40 years, retiring in 1996. He was the owner of Teach-A-Tot Learning Center in St. Peters for more than 20 years. Real estate ventures in the St. Louis area and Bella Vista occupied him for many years. He also loved to go dancing with his wife Gail.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan Keithahn and husband Phillip of Gaylord, Minn., and Karen Sullivan and husband Mark of Methuen, Mass.; four sisters, Charlene Carnes of Palm Harbor, Fla., Amanda McCord of Marshall, Catherine Tindle of Jefferson City and Mary "Betsy" Charles of Sedalia; five brothers, Joe Downs of Tonganoxie, Kan., Melvin Downs of Independence, John Downs of Holden, Robert Downs of Raytown and Kenneth Downs of Lee's Summit; six grandchildren, Brett and Lauren Keithahn and James, Emily, John Paul and Daniel Sullivan.
