Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. William W. Harlow will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 28, at the funeral home. Burial with military rites at graveside will be in Bethlehem Cemetery in Saline County. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
Born Dec. 3, 1972, in Independence, he was the son of Howard N. Sporleder and Carolyn S. Wiley Sporleder, who survive of Climax Springs. He was raised in Blue Springs and attended Blue Springs High School. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1999 and served on the USS Abraham Lincoln for four years, serving two tours in the Persian Gulf during the Iraqi war. He was recognized with the Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist Pin, Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, Armed Forces Expedition Medal with Bronze Star, Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, National Defense Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Flag Letter of Commendation, Admiral's Challenge Coin and Arleigh Burke Award for Excellence for the period of Feb. 28, 2002, to July 1, 2003.
Additional survivors include paternal grandmother, Margret Sporleder of Marshall; maternal grandparents, Jim and Dorothy Wiley of Marshall; one sister, Amy Sporleder of Medford, Ore.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Howard W. Sporleder.
