John H. O'Keefe, 85, of Sedalia, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 26, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sedalia. Father Vincent Hoying will officiate. The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Heckart/Gillespie Colonial Chapel in Sedalia. Friends may also sign the guest register online at www.heckart-gillespie.com. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Sedalia. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Sedalia Public Library, sheltered workshop or the aquatic program at Children's Therapy Center.
Born Nov. 19, 1918, in Denver, Colo., he was the son of the late James and Mary Webster O'Keefe. On July 29, 1950, in Longmont, Colo., he married Colleen Hilligoss, who survives of the home. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and was a 1945 graduate of St. Louis University School of Dentistry. He was in private practice in the Denver, Colo., area from 1945 to 1970. He entered institutional dentistry in Missouri in 1970 and at the Missouri Department of Corrections, where he worked until 1976. He then worked for the Missouri Department of Mental Health from 1976 to 1983, when he retired. He served in the U.S. Army Dental Corps from 1953 to 1954.
Additional survivors include three sons, Thomas O'Keefe of Denver, Colo., Daniel O'Keefe of Shawnee, Kan., and Michael O'Keefe of Independence; four daughters, Maureen Roehrs of Marshall, Anne Larson of Madison, Wis., Margaret O'Keefe of Columbia and Kathryn O'Keefe of Sedalia; three granddaughters; three grandsons; and one stepgranddaughter.
