Russell Warren Jones Sr., 65, of Slater, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at University Hospital and Clinics in Columbia.
Graveside services with military rites will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 24, at Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall. Visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Memorials are suggested to Butterfield Youth Services in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall.
Born June 26, 1938, in Dixon, he was the son of the late Raymond Jones and Ruth Nelson Jones. On Sept. 23, 1982, he married Bernice Brayman Witt, who preceded him in death July 18, 2003. He had lived in Slater since 1984 and was a retired truck driver and owner of Jones Small Engine Repair in Slater and Papa's Bait Shop. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Korea and Germany, a member of Slater American Legion Post 78 and a Mason. He had served as a city councilman in Slater.
Survivors include one son, Russell Warren Jones Jr. of Marshall; three daughters, LaDonna Bowen of Summerdale, Ala., Verna Wilkerson of Ft. Meade, Fla., and Janice Williamson of Wauchula, Fla.; one brother, Paul Jones of Marshall; several grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
