Lester L. Smith, 82, of rural Marshall, died Monday, June 21, 2004, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 24, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall. Rev. Jerry Scott will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Burial with military rites will be in Fairview Cemetery in Sweet Springs. Memorials are suggested to Olivet Free Will Baptist Church in Marshall.
Born Nov. 21, 1921, in Dallas County, he was the son of the late James D. Smith and Mary E. Allman Smith. On Oct. 24, 1964, in Buffalo, he married Dorothy A. Swigart, who survives of the home. He had lived in Saline County the last 38 years, moving from Buffalo. He was a retired carpenter and farmer. He attended Olivet Free Will Baptist Church in Marshall and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Additional survivors include three sons, Donald Smith and John D. Smith, both of Hermitage, and Mark A. Smith of rural Marshall; one daughter, Marcia Kirby of rural Marshall; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
