Monsignor Francis Gerard Gillgannon, 75, of Kansas City, formerly of Marshall, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at St. Joseph Health Center in Kansas City.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, at Cathedral of St. Joseph in Jefferson City. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery in Jefferson City. Memorials are suggested to Little Sisters of the Poor, 8745 James A. Reed Road, Kansas City, MO 64138 or the charity of choice.

Born May 13, 1929, in Kansas City, he was the son of the late Matthew A. Gillgannon and Josephine Marcella Donovan Gillgannon. He attended St. John's Seminary in Kansas City and St. Louis Prepatory Seminary and Kenrick Seminary in St. Louis. He was ordained as a priest for the Diocese of Kansas City on April 3, 1954. His first assignment was an associate pastor at St. Peter Catholic Church in Marshall. He returned to Marshall in 1982, serving as pastor of St. Peter Catholic Church until June 21, 1989.

Survivors include one brother, Father Michael J. Gillgannon of La Paz, Bolivia; one sister, Sister Mary McAuley Gillgannon, RSM, of Omaha, Neb.; and 12 nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Father Patrick J. Gillgannon.
