R.C. "Bob" Melies, 88, of Marshall, died Monday, June 7, 2004, at Mar-Saline Manor Care Center in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 10, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Marshall. Father Kevin Gormley and Deacon Joe Mitchell will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Mike Hieronymus, Jamie Hieronymus, Jim Weaver, Steve Melies, Dennis Boland, John Mertensmeyer and Paul Melies. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials are suggested to the St. Peter Catholic Church Capital Campaign.
Born Sept. 1, 1915, in Koeltztown, he was the son of the late G.F. and Catherine Winkleman Melies. On Oct. 9, 1970, he married Cora Alice Gordon Reed, who preceded him in death Oct. 4, 2003. He had lived in Saline County most of his life and was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Marshall.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Gail Reed Palmer and Marjorie Manson, both of Marshall; one son, James G. Reed of San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Rose Boland of Waverly and Marie Mertensmeyer of Lee's Summit; four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Alfred, Norbert and Joe Melies; one sister, Agnes Weaver; and two grandsons.
