Ralph H. Scharnhorst, 76, of Kansas City, formerly of Marshall, died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at Independence Regional Health Care in Independence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, at Sheil Colonial Chapel in Kansas City. Rev. Cliff Cato will officiate. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery in Kansas City. Memorials are suggested to the Southside Assembly of God youth church camp or the Lighthouse Shelter in Marshall.

Born Nov. 2, 1927, in Saline County, he was the son of the late Oxford Scharnhorst and Elizabeth Brown Scharnhorst. On Dec. 2, 1945, he married Roberta Sinnett, who preceded him in death. On Sept. 29, 1967, in the state of Oklahoma, he married Cleta Sinnett, who survives of the home.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Dixie Simonin and husband Tom of Independence and Debbie Allison and husband David of Marshall; one stepdaughter, Jeanette Bartholomae and husband Roy of Independence; two brothers, Earl Scharnhorst of Kansas City and Earnest Scharnhorst of St. Joseph; five sisters, Dorothy Williams of Marshall, Stella Piper of Slater, Marie Sprinkle of Kansas City, Betty Deibel of Marshall and Aileen "Rose" Mullins of Marshall; two grandchildren, Scott Bockstetter and wife Shelly of Marshall and Robin Christy and husband Shane of Marshall; three stepgranddaughters; two great-granddaughters, Alyson and Madison Bockstetter; and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, John Scharnhorst.
