Ruth C. Kelling, 90, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Waverly, died Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living Facility in San Antonio.
Memorial graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 3, at Mount Nebo Cemetery in Grand Pass. Rev. Tim Kiser will officiate. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society and may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S. Main, Carrollton, MO 64633.
Born June 14, 1913, in Manchester, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Howard Commerford and Grace Horton Commerford. In 1932, she married Dr. Jordan A. Kelling, who preceded her in death in 1985. She graduated from Manchester High School and attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She lived in St. Louis, and Baltimore, Md., while her husband received medical training. In 1940, she moved to Waverly, where her husband joined the family practice. She was a member of the local KPMTN Club and was president of the auxiliaries of the Missouri Medical Association and Southern Medical Association. After her husband served in the military, they returned to Waverly in 1947, where she remained until 1994 and then moved to Texas. She lived in Brighton Gardens Assisted Living Facility in San Antonio the last four years of her life.
Survivors include one son, Lt. Col. George H. Kelling (ret.) of San Antonio; two grandchildren, Maj. George A. Kelling and Mary Ann Jennings; and four great-grandchildren, Avery Elizabeth Kelling, Blake Jordan Kelling, Haley Jennings and Ashley Jennings.
