Thomas O. "Bud" Smiley, 71, of rural Marshall, died Monday, May 17, 2004, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 24, at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville. William W. Harlow will officiate. Burial will be in the cemetery with military rites at graveside. Memorials are suggested to Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall.
Born July 22, 1932, in Lockwood, in Dade County, he was the son of the late Thomas Smiley and Flota Josephine Rowland Smiley. On Aug. 17, 1991, in Marshall Junction, he married Charlita B. Balaba, who survives of the home. He returned to Marshall in 1991. He was a Presbyterian, a retired farmer and a U.S. Navy retiree, serving 26 years. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2646 in Marshall, Fleet Reserve Association and AMVETS.
Additional survivors include two daughters, Diana B. Smiley of Yokuska, Japan, and Eva Marie Smiley of the home; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters.
