Dr. Daniel L. Morgan, M.D., 82, of Chico, Calif., formerly of Saline County, died Saturday, May 1, 2004, at Windchime of Chico Assisted Living Center in Chico.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Rev. Penny Smith will officiate. Organist Bethany Weiker will play "Be Still My Soul" and "In the Garden." Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Patrick Morgan, M.D., Steven Tackett-Nelson, M.D., Mark D. Morgan, Patrick Maloney, Conor Maloney and Michael Smith. Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery in Slater. Memorials are suggested to the church of donor's choice.
Born February 22, 1922, in Slater, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Harriett McCormick Morgan. He received a medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Barnes Hospital with board certifications in general surgery and orthopedics. After his residency and internship training, he served in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at March Air Force Base in southern California. He had a private medical practice in Roseville, Calif., where he was a surgeon for many years. He attained many accolades during his lifetime, most notably serving at chief of staff of Roseville Community Hospital and being a founding physician and architect in the construction and development of Auburn Faith Community Hospital in Auburn, Calif.
Survivors include three sons, Mark D. Morgan of Chino Hills, Calif., Patrick Morgan, M.C., of Oklahoma Ciy, Okla., and Phil Morgan of Chico; four daughters, June Morgan-Lavy of Chico, Janine Maloney-Chu of Chico, Cathy Kragel of Chico and Elizabeth Guignier of Rancho Mirage; and numerous grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Morgan; and three sisters, Grace V. Morgan, Ruth A. Morgan and Roxielee Lemmon.
