Robert L. Nelson, 75, of Miami, formerly of Parker, S.D., died Saturday, April 24, 2004.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 1, at Grace Lutheran Church in Parker. Burial was in Rosehill Cemetery in Parker. Arrangements were under the direction of Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home in Parker.
Born Jan. 26, 1929, in Akron, Iowa, he was the son of the late Anders and Mary Groon Nelson. He graduated from Parker High School in 1947 and South Dakota State College in 1952. After serving in the U.S. Army for two years, he attended Iowa State University in Ames. He was employed as a grain inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 30 years, retiring in 1984. He lived in Chicago, the Washington, D.C., area, Minneapolis, Omaha, Neb., and Kansas City, moving to Miami after his retirement. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and the spinning and weaving guild.
Survivors include his twin brother, Leonard Nelson of Mitchell, S.D.; and twin sisters, Arliss Gortmaker of Monroe, S.D., and Audrey Versteeg of Brandon, S.D.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Martha Bollweg and brothers Arnold and Lowell Nelson.
