Clarence Francis Samson, 88, of Marshall, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 8, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Marshall. Father Kevin Gormley will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Patrick Sporleder, Christopher Sporleder, Andrew Sporleder, Bill Samson, Kenneth Gieringer, John Pat Samson, Jim Kloeppel and Raphael Samson. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials are suggested to the Marshall Senior Center or the St. Peter Catholic Church Capital Campaign.
Born Oct. 24, 1915, in Frankenstein, he was the son of the late Conrad Samson and Theresa Backes Samson. On Nov. 28, 1939, he married Mathilda R. Kloeppel, who preceded him in death May 15, 1992. On Oct. 23, 1993, he married Dorothy Martin Pollard, who survives of the home. He had lived in Saline County most of his life and was a farmer and member of St. Peter Catholic Church. He was a third degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 876 and served on the board of the Marshall Senior Center.
Additional survivors include one daughter, Bernice Sporleder and husband Richard of rural Marshall; two brothers, Conrad Samson Jr. of Plano, Texas, and Benedick Samson of rural Marshall; one sister, Edith Jo Gieringer of Marshall; three grandsons, Patrick, Christopher and Andrew Sporleder; one stepgranddaughter, Michelle Pollard; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Norbert Samson, one stepson, Wally Joe Pollard, and four brothers.
