Raymond Lindsey Evans, 87, of Independence, formerly of Marshall, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at Regency Care Center of Independence in Independence.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 20, with Masonic services at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall. William W. Harlow will officiate. Soloist Steve Hoskins will sing "In the Garden," "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art." Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, March 19, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Pallbearers will be Brandon Evans, David Evans, Randy Evans, John Evans, Ken Evans, Glenn Evans and Karl Evans. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials are suggested to Shriners Hospitals for Children or the charity of choice.
Born Oct. 2, 1916, in Marshall, he was the son of the late Estil Kring Evans and Estella Lindsey Evans. On June 8, 1940, he married Alice M. Herndon, who preceded him in death April 6, 2002. He had lived in Independence since 1958, previously living in Marshall and Pleasant Hill. He retired in 1978 as operations engineer for Independence Power & Light. He was a member of Trilumina Lodge No. 205 A.F. and A.M. and a member of Ararat Temple of Kansas City.
Survivors include five sons, Kenneth R. Evans of North Kansas City, John E. Evans of Independence, Karl W. Evans of Independence, Randy A. Evans of North Kansas City and Glenn H. Evans of Independence; one daughter, Ramona A. Evans of Independence; nine grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Miles Evans and E.K. Evans.
