Valerie Wares, 91, of La Plata, died Monday, March 8, 2004, at The Living Center in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 12, at Community Presbyterian Church in La Plata. Rev. Lou Wollenberg will officiate. Music will be provided by organist Sara Beth Fouch and soloist Phyllis Thornton. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Pallbearers will be Greg Mach, Brad Mach, Joe Camarda, Jim Inlow, Tom Penne and Lloyd Demory. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Bragg, Raymond Gross, Jim Elliott, Clinton Steele, Ed Green and Noel Crawford. Burial will be in La Plata Cemetery in La Plata. Memorials are suggested to La Plata Community Presbyterian Church or The Living Center in Marshall and may be left at or sent to Travis Funeral Chapel, 125 S. Church St., La Plata.
Born May 25, 1912, in Waterville, Minn., she was the daughter of the late James and Emma Schmidt Burns. On Jan. 27, 1934, in Kirksville, she married Clifford "Jimmie" Wares, who preceded her in death Oct. 20, 1984. She lived most of her adult life in the La Plata community, where she was a member of the La Plata Community Presbyterian Church. She had been a member of the La Plata Ladies Golf Association and the Atalpal.
Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Mach of Marshall; four grandchildren; and four great-grandsons.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Rosalie Peterson, and one brother, Marlowe Burns.
