Rev. James Joseph O'Sullivan, 69, of Eldon, formerly of Marshall, died Friday, Feb. 27, 2004.
Mass of Christian burial was held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 1, at Sacred Heart Church in Eldon. Rev. John R. Gaydos officiated. Burial was in St. Patrick Cemetery in Laurie.
Born April 21, 1934, in Cork City, Ireland, he was the son of the late Thomas O. and Mary Sheehan O'Sullivan. He was ordained to the Priesthood in 1960 for the Diocese of Jefferson City. He was appointed pastor of St. Peter Catholic Church in Marshall from Aug. 22, 1970, to Aug. 6, 1982. He was dean of the Marshall Deanery. While he was pastor in Marshall, a new church and rectory were built and dedicated in 1977. He was also appointed temporary administer of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Shackelford from 1972 to 1978. He was named pastor of Holy Family Catholic Church in Sweet Springs in 1972 and reopened the church and relocated the parish in 1982. He was pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Eldon from 1982 until his death. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and a fourth degree member of St. Jude Assembly No. 1567 of Mary's Home and chaplain of Knights of Columbus Council No. 7133 in Eldon.
Survivors include two brothers, Michael O'Sullivan of Preston and Thomas O'Sullivan of Ireland; and one sister, Bernadette O'Sullivan of Ireland.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, John O'Sullivan.
