Gene E. Heilman, 80, of Bonner Springs, Kan., formerly of Marshall, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, at Indian Meadows Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Funeral Chapel in Overland Park, Kan. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Catholic Church in Olathe, Kan.
Born March 18, 1923, in Marshall, he was the son of the late Joseph Heilman Jr. and Lillian Heilman. He married Virginia Stroudman, who preceded him in death. He later married Helen Martin Heilman, who survives of Bonner Springs, Kan. He was a retired mechanic and a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Olathe, Kan., and the Olathe Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Additional survivors include three sons, Kenneth Heilman of Boise, Idaho, Larry Heilman of Topeka, Kan., and Steve Heilman of Olathe, Kan.; three stepdaughters Nancy Golotta of Olathe, Kan., and Carolyn Crutchfield and Deborah Oldham, both of Kansas City, Kan.; two sisters, Kathryn Cochran of Sweet Springs and Ruth Wilhite of Marshall; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister and one granddaughter.
