John F. Kraenow, 102, of Saline City, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at Big Bend Retreat in Slater.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Rev. David Van Horn will officiate. Organist Bethany Weiker will play "Amazing Grace" and accompany Mary Lee Sisney as she sings "Let There be Peace on Earth." Pallbearers will be Anthony Blumhorst, Larry Desmond, Charles Weiher, Mike Blumhorst, Glen Edison and Josh Edison. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Salem United Church of Christ Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the cemetery or Big Bend Retreat.

Born Oct. 21, 1901, in Gasconade County, he was the son of the late Adolph Kraenow and Mary Biere Kraenow. On Oct. 21, 1928, in Saline County, he married Anna Alvina Weiher, who preceded him in death May 3, 1944. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Arrow Rock and was a retired farmer.

Survivors include one brother, Herman Kraenow of the state of Nebraska; one sister, Esther Hoener of Jefferson City; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by five brothers.
