Thomas E. Ballew, 71, of Columbia, formerly of Slater, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Chaplain John Fussner will officiate. Organist Bethany Weiker will play "Beyond the Sunset" and "In the Garden." Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Robert Thomas, Richard Spradley, Tommy Conger and Michael Evans. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Warrensburg. Memorials are suggested to the Missouri River Hospice or American Diabetes Association.
Born March 25, 1932, in Glasgow, he was the son of the late William H. and Mary Taylor Ballew. On June 7, 1959, in Slater, he married Shirley Smith, who survives of the home. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Slater. He worked at BHA in Slater for 13 years and was also a farm laborer. He had lived in Columbia since August 2003, moving from Slater.
Additional survivors include three sons, Thomas Ballew Jr. of Holden, William Linn Ballew of Sedalia and Kenneth R. Ballew of Portland, Ore.; one daughter, Regina Temple of Slater; three sisters, Martha Bryson of Independence; Athlene Young and Betty Hanger, both of Sedalia; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers and one sister.
