C.O. DeWitt, 99, of Malta Bend, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at his home.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12, at Malta Bend Cemetery in Malta Bend. William W. Harlow officiated. Pallbearers were Lester O. Rader, Jerry W. Rader, Carl E. Rader, Ronald G. Rader, Carl R. Rader and Don Schnell. Burial was in Malta Bend Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Saline Animal League in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home.
Born Aug. 13, 1904, in Mexico, he was the son of the late John DeWitt and Mattie Ankrom DeWitt. On Nov. 10, 1929, he married Myrtle B. Petty, who preceded him in death Nov. 30, 1975. He had lived in Saline County his entire life. He was a retired farmer and had been janitor at Malta Bend High School for many years.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Lou Holman of Kansas City; one half brother, John DeWitt of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandsons, Lester O. Rader, Jerry W. Rader, Carl E. Rader and Ronald Glenn Rader; one granddaughter, Keri DeWitt; 12 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Russell E. DeWitt, one grandson, Bruce A. Rader, and four brothers.
