Melvin S. Wolford, 82, of Marshall, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at Sweeney-Reser-Wills Funeral Home in Marshall. Rev. Russ Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at the funeral home. Burial with military rites will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials are suggested to the Marshall Senior Center or the Alzheimer's Association.
Born Nov. 15, 1921, in Slater, he was the son of the late George M. Wolford and Sadie Clemons Wolford. On May 19, 1943, in Slater, he married Goldie L. Evans, who survives of the home. He was a Saline County resident his entire life and had been employed at International Shoe Company for many years before his retirement. He had served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Missouri National Guard for 27 years. He was a member of Blackburn American Legion Post 478.
Additional survivors include one daughter, Kimberly Jo Drake of Grandview; one sister, Doris Carmichael of Gladstone; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six infant children, five brothers and four sisters.
