Ralph G. Thornton, 79, of Liberty, formerly of Marshall, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at Liberty Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons White Chapel Funeral Home in Gladstone. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8. Entombment will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
Born Jan. 7, 1924, in Glasgow, he was the son of Harry E. Thornton and Lavina Jane Angsworth Thornton. He was a World War II Army veteran serving in Europe where he was awarded five Bronze Stars. He had owned and operated Gladstone Sewer and Plumbing and later worked for General Motors, where he retired. On April 19, 1947, in Marshall, he married Margaret "Margie" Riley Thornton, who preceded him in death Dec. 16, 2003.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Darlene Thornton of Kansas City and Denise Hyde of Kansas City; two sons, Don Richard Thornton of Excelsior Springs and David E. Thornton of Kansas City; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
